Description
This is the boldest version of my traditional leather journal with lock and key. It was created to make a statement, a token of love, to express passion or luxurious dreams. The leather was hand dyed a bright, vivid shade of magenta combined with a more saturated shade of red. The design is still meant to resemble a medieval tome from ancient times. The metal brads placed in the corners and the lock have a black patina to fit the overall antique look of this book. The brads will allow it to lay flat when opened but the surface of the covers will never enter in contact with the table and thus will protect the decoration from scratching. I saw this system used in old books and I just loved it. The spine was designed to resemble that of an old book; The raised bands were obtained with strips of leather underneath the one that covers it, and were painted with red leather dye. The book measures 10.2 x 7.3 inches (26 x 18.5 cm). It is filled with Fabriano artist paper and has 104 pages (208 sides). The paper is warm white, slightly textured, hand torn and thick, it has 250 gsm (for comparison, photocopy paper has 90 gsm). It is acid free, perfect for writing and sketching in any media, even watercolor. The end pages are made of dark red paper with a slight marbled texture. The headbands are hand sewn by me from brown and black thread. This journal is an art object. You can use it with your loved one, as a secret lockable diary, even as sketchbook or a photo album due to its heavy weight paper, either way, you will love it once you’ll meet it.
