Description
This book is made of natural leather that I antiqued myself with vegetable dyes and patina in several layers. I designed it to resemble a medieval tome. The metal brads placed in the corners and the lock have a patina to fit the overall antique look of this book. The brads will allow it to lay flat when opened but the surface of the covers will never enter in contact with the table and thus will protect the decoration from scratching. I saw this system used in old books and I just loved it. The geometrical decoration of the covers is made with leather paint. The spine was designed to resemble that of an old book; The raised bands were obtained with strips of leather underneath the one that covers it. It is decorated with leather paints. The end pages are made of marbled paper. The binding is longstitch, made with strong linen thread. The headbands are hand sewn by me of brown and white thread. The book measures 10.2 x 7.3 inches (26 x 18.5 cm). You can order this book to be filled with artist quality paper OR with writing paper. The options are detailed below: 1) Fabriano artist paper will give 104 pages (208 sides). The paper is white, slightly textured, hand torn and has 250 gsm. It is a thick paper, acid free perfect for writing and sketching in any media, even watercolor. 2) The writing paper will give 170 pages (340 sides). It has 125 gsm, is white, hand torn and works for ink and dry media. Although thinner, this paper is also acid free and does not bleed through. This journal is an art object.
